Chinook fishing is still catch and release until July 15th. The quantity of Chinook seems to have dropped a bit, but there are now larger fish in the area. Grande to Whalebone, Entrance, and the Fingers all hold worthwhile numbers of Chinook. Try the Killy MaGee or Cookies and Cream spoons, fished 160 feet down to the bottom in 160 feet to 200 feet of water.
There are still very few Coho in local waters. Hopefully they will arrive soon.
Ling fishing is still worthwhile, if you can find conditions without too much wind and current. Gabriola and Entrance Reefs are good places to fish. Try the humps in 30 to 100 feet of water. Five inch herring, black and white plastics, or green/white jigs are favourites.
Prawning is still good. Expect 60 to 80 per trap.
Please let me know if you would like to fish The North Shore Derby situated in Silva Bay Marina July 16th and 17th. I will collect your $50 entry, and register you.
Good fishing!
