Chinook fishing was very strong through July 28th. We fished Whalebone in the 135 to 160 foot depths, and released loads of undersized fish, and kept our limit of nice Chinook on two trips. The fish were taking the Bon Chovy spoon, and T-Rex hoochie. Shelley and I joined Matt and Shaun Dunham the evening of July 26th, and the jigging off Carlos Island and Rowboat Point was fantastic. We were releasing fish in the 8 to 12 pound range after keeping our fill of lovely Chinook. Clyde, Dane, and Tim had a career night jigging off Entrance, hooking up double and triple headers all evening. The fishing got tougher late in the week, with mostly undersized fish being released, with the occasional keeper in the mix. Thrasher opens for retention on August 1st, and I really want to take a “look see”, and run some small plugs through the shallows there.
Ling and Rockfish have been cooperative at Thrasher. Try the 50 foot depth with whole herring, jigs, or plastics. There is so much bait off the Flat Tops, that people have been catching Ling jigging for Chinook.
Prawning is still good off The Flat Tops. There are still no berried prawns in the mix, so that is an absolute bonus!
Good fishing!
