Latest Fishing Report: On the Line

By Bob Meyer - Silver Blue Charters
July 26, 2010

Gabriola July 26th

Chinook fishing is still strong at the Grande to Whalebone, and Thrasher to the green can. Most fish are in the 8 to 14 pound range, but we're catching the occasional fish in the 20's. Depths generally range 140 to 160 feet, but when fishing inshore, may be as shallow as 85 feet. Rhys Davis teasers in chartreuse glow stripe, Coyotes in glow green/silver or black/white, or the green spackleback hoochie are top baits.
Ling fishing is good off Gabriola Reef. Try large baits, plastics or the Tiger jig in 35 to 90 feet of water.
Expect up to 100 prawns per trap off the Flat Tops. Tuna cat food fished in the 350 to 400 foot range will produce the best result.
Good fishing!
